Special guests included Artie Forrest (Wonderama's director), and Frank Santopadre co-host of Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Collasal Podcast.

Sonny shares some personal reflections at Easter/Passover time.

Between the ages of five and, perhaps, nine, I apparently decided that I was God’s eyes on   the streets of Brooklyn.

I apparently was infused with the concept of sin and the consequential punishments from God. Whether I learned  that  at the synagogue or, more likely, at home, the consequences of offending God were obviously swift and serious.

As a result, when anyone on the street sa...

Back in the 1960s, before we had CD players and another such apparatus, I was contracted to produce a children's vinyl record. One side of that record had several kids talking about the concept of God in their lives.

The most important lesson I learned was that children can understand God in biological, physical terms, but could not not deal in the concept of God. The idea of God to exist in the child's mind has to be fleshed out with very specific character...

Dear Mr. Sonny Fox,

I'm sixty-eight (68) years old - soon 69 (3 Feb 2019).  There was Mom and Dad, the first three (3) daughters and then me, Janine and Denard.  It was always Denard who informed Janine and me about your show. Denard first told us about this new tv show the Sandy Becker Show. My brother told the entire neighborhood...who in turn started to watch the show. Then, sometime later...Denard informed us about another new show...Wonderama with a guy...

Just a quick note to tell you how happy I am to be able to use the marvelous technology of today to say thanks. No doubt, you've heard from many "old friends" like myself over the years...people who spent whole swatches of their childhoods watching, playing along and learning from you. I'm 68 and am a proud disciple of your efforts from the late 50's into the 60's...having watched you on channel 5 in NYC. I'm sure the legions of your followers have bored yo...

In the July 8th 1957 Edition of Time Magazine, there was a very positive review of Harry Truman's visit to my Let's Take A Trip program. I am delighted to share it with for your enjoyment.

Dear Sonny,

Tonight I'm sitting around reminiscing about my childhood my mother and my father and my brother were all gone now and how good life was when you're young and your parents are around the guide you and to be your friends. I was thinking of you and Wonderama I would always make sure I got up Sunday morning to watch you. I remember the amazing Randi how great you were with the kids. I still remember that show with Bobby Kennedy and a girl in the aud...

Hi Sonny - I am a 68 year old rower living in Charlotte, NC. Our boat club has a Vespoli Double named the Irwin "Sonny" Fox, obviously named for you. I do not know from whom we purchased the boat, but I have often wondered about the name. I looked you up and discovered your name was Irwin.

I just wanted you to know that your name lives on, on Lake Wylie.

Enjoyed Wonderama!

Jay

Dear Mr. Fox, I am in the middle of your book and words cannot describe the many feelings. Also, I was on the show as a kid in 1965 and Gary Lewis and the Playboys were also on that day.

It was a once in a lifetime experience that I shall always cherish. Much love from Bronx USA.

Thank you!

Dear Robert of the Bronx,

Thank you so much for your interim review of my book.

It is now serving an entirely surprising purpose in my life; as my 92-year-old brain begins to...

When I was a kid we were poor, and my parents were not much for indulgences even if they had been fiscally able to provide them. I took a lot of teasing over my clothes and house, over our car and the knock-off toys i did have, but every Saturday morning I  turned on just for fun, and sat and watched in breathless anticipation for some child to stand with their arms wide as you whisked toys up up up into their arms till  the toys spill over,

the toys sp...

A NOTE FROM SONNY

As many of you already know, I receive a steady stream of messages from my ‘kids’ recalling their memories of watching, or participating in, Wonderama and Just for Fun, the two multi-hour weekend TV shows I hosted on Ch 5 in NY in the sixties. I am always delighted—and amazed—at how vivid your recall is over these many decades.

Last week I received the first of two e-mails from someone I had not encountered before. Dr. Lori Sweetwood wrote of how, every Saturday, she watched Just for Fun, and reflects, in her message on the moment when the child trying to open the mystery chest when the one of the thousand keys he/she started with actually works. At that moment we stopped all other proceedings and started piling the successful  child’s arms with a seemingly endless  supply of games.

It is her reaction to that event which spoke to me on so many levels. With Lori's permission to post, please start reading her first message, continuing on the fan blog page, and rejoin me after for my thoughts provoked by her intensely personal recollections.
